Over the years, the (IPL) Indian Premier League has gained a lot of attention from the spectators all over the world, due to the foreign players from all over the countries who have also been a part of IPL franchises. The 13th edition of the IPL tournament is all set to start again in September 2020, in UAE, due to the increasing pandemic Coronavirus in India. The Excitement for the cash-rich league has begun and there’s a lot of buzz among the Cricket fans across India.
Here are some of the little facts, you must know if you’re a crazy fan of the IPL Tournament.
7) The most valuable player award has been won by only two Indian cricketers
IPL was established with the goal of promoting Indian Cricket. Although the IPL edition is 12 years old, the most valuable player award has been won only by the two Indian players so far. And the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has won the most valuable player award in the 2010 IPL season, by scoring 618 runs for MI and Virat Kohli grabs the second most valuable player award in the 8th season of IPL, by scoring 973 runs.
6) RCB holds the lowest and the highest total in the history of IPL
Royal Challengers Bangalore has always been a team of players with power hitters but has never won the trophy to their name. Surprisingly the team holds a unique and bizarre record to its name. RCB is the only team in the history of IPL to have the highest 250+ scores in 2013 and the lowest total of 50 scores in 2017.
5) No-Ball for Piyush Chawla
One of the most underrated leg-spinners in Cricket history is none other than Piyush Chawla who holds one of the most amusing records. Once, while playing against Delhi Daredevils, he did not bowl a no-ball for 386 overs. And now he’ll be a part of the CSK franchise.
4) Two Overseas players have played 100 matches
The IPL has come a long way from its journey which started in 2008 and many players have switched from one team to another, but this International Cricketer, AB de Villiers started his IPL journey with Delhi, but in 2011, he became a part of RCB and have played 101 matches for the team. And the other overseas player, Kieron Pollard who has always been a part of MI, since his journey in 2010 and has played 123 matches. Both players are the only foreigners to represent a single team in more than 100 matches in the IPL history.
3) One ball costs 21 Lakhs in 2018
The broadcasting rights paid a whopping amount of INR Rs 16347.5 crore which is approximately 21 lakhs for telecasting one ball in IPL 2018 to Star Sports India Network.
2) Virat Kohli has been a part of 3 double century partnerships
The Indian batsman is always fierce while playing in the field and is always busy chasing the opponent. He’s not only the batsman with the record of most runs but he’s the only one who has been a part of 3 double century partnerships in the IPL history, one with Chris Gayle and the other two with Ab de Villiers.
1) Harbhajan Singh has the most number of ducks
The off-spin bowler holds the most number of ducks to his name. Despite being a part of MI for 9 seasons, he was let go by MI to CSK in the 10th IPL auction. The player has recorded 13 ducks in 12 seasons of the IPL Tournament.
