Sun TV Network is an acronym in all households of Tamil Nadu and in the last 15 years it has expanded its footprint in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and West Bengal. Now it is all set to foray into Maharashtra.
1 – Sun TV network and Sun Group-owned and run by Kalanathi Maran. He is the Elder brother of Dayanadhi Maran (Member of Parliament – Chennai Central) and Son of Former union minister Mursoli Maran.
2 – Kalanathi Maran is a full-fledged businessman who first started with Cable TV in 1991 and by 2010 he has entered India’s high flying aviation Industry and by 2012 he formed into Indian Premier League.
3 – Sun TV Network is the largest TV network in Asia which caters to 32 channels across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali and very soon into Marathi as well.
4 – Sun TV Network has its strong presence in print media with 2 daily Tamil newspapers viz DinaKaran is the largest read newspaper in Tamil Nadu followed up with Tamil Murasu (evening newspaper) and this group owns 5 magazines – Kumguma Chimizh, Kungumam Thozhi, Aanmigam, Mutharam and Vannathirai. It is speculated that an approximate of 60% of the Tamil public read either of these newspapers or Magazines on a daily basis.
5 – Sunrisers Hyderabad, the IPL cricket franchise is owned and run by Kalanathi Maran of Sun TV network. Established in 2012 after the demise of Deccan Chargers.SRH has a brand value of US$76 million in 2019. It won the coveted IPL title in the year 2016 under the captainship of Australian batsman David Warner.
6 – Sun TV Network owns Sun NXT, which is on par with Hotstar or Netflix. Sun NXT provides you with global online video/audio and live streaming platforms. It has 8000 movies and comes with monthly and annual subscriptions.
7 – Sun TV network also owns a production house named as Sun Pictures. Established in the year 2000. They have produced blockbusters movies such as “Sarkar” and “Petta” recently. Sun pictures is an outstanding production house which is very popular for its marketing strategies.
8 – Sun TV network is a public listed company and has shares in Bombay stock exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE). This network has approximated assets of worth 4000+crores and has close to 2000 employees.
9 – In 2010 Sun TV Network/Sun group had invested 37% stakes in India low cost flying aircraft carrier – Spicejet. Despite the setback, it further added US$14 million in 2012. But after 5 years into the aviation industry, Kalanathi Maran sold the entire stakes to the founder of Spicejet owner Ajay Singh and left the aviation industry.
