The 2021 Tamil Nadu election results as announced on Sunday the 2nd of May have the following results:
1) DMK – 120/133
2) AIADMK – 64/66
3) INC – 17/18
4) PMK – 5/5
5) VCK – 4/4
The AIADMK put up a tough fight against the daunting DMK, although the AIADMK was in power for the past ten years there were no strong sentiments in favor of voting out incumbent politicians.
The party continued to sustain its rule in the western region which includes Coimbatore and Salem. The AIADMK chief Palaniswamy started his journey as an unknown regional leader after the death of J Jayalalitha, he was chosen by VK Sasikala. The AIADMK leader holds credit for the party’s better-than-expected results. The biographer of M G Ramachandran and C N Annadurai, Mr. R Kannan says that “This is an honourable loss for Palaniswami”.
While DMK performed well in Chennai, north, south, and central regions. The AIADMK continued to have its stronghold on the western regions, the party had introduced a 10.5% reduction for Vanniyars that had an impact on the west and north regions as it has a strong base of Vanniyars. These regions are also dominated by Gounders, a community to which Palaniswamy belongs. BJP’s best performance by far in Tamil Nadu was during this election.
