The Covid cases have been increasing at a disturbing rate in Chennai as the city saw 4,082 cases on Friday. As per Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) information, the city saw a 70 per cent increase in the active cases in the last one week.
To additional check the infection spread, testing has also been intensified in Chennai with over 15,000 samples being collected each day.
In any case, the authority information expresses that the positivity rate has gone over 4% as compared to 1.5 % a month ago.
As per the report in TOI, a senior corporation official said, “Currently the majority of the cases are mildly symptomatic. Only around 50 of the 6,000 Covid Care Centre (CCC) beds have been utilised. We are well prepared.” He further said that special camps are being conducted in the city, both for vaccination as well as for testing.
There has been an alarming spike in the COVID-19 cases where Royapuram and Kodambakkam saw a steep increase. The cases have gone up by 211 in Royapuram and 229 in Kodambakkam last week. The highest number of active cases in the city have been reported from Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Anna Nagar.
To keep a check on the virus, Door-to-door surveillance has been started where residents will be tested.The survey workers will check the temperature and also check if the residents have an influenza-like illness. Also, they would keep a check if people above 45 have been vaccinated or not.
