What is Coronavirus?
Coronavirus is a large family of viruses that causes illness like common cold to severe diseases like Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
What is the 2019 Novel Coronavirus?
It is a new type of Coronavirus which is not previously identified in humans.
Where did the virus originate?
It came from the Huanan seafood and meat market in Wuhan, China, in December. The market sold live and recently slaughtered animals. Many of those infected either worked or frequently shopped in Huanan which is where the virus originated.
On Feb 7, researchers said the virus could have spread from either pangolins or bats or snakes.
Cough, fever, shortness of breath, breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, it causes pneumonia, organ failure and death.
What can I do to protect myself?
Regular handwashing with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub
Covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing
Meats and eggs should be properly cooked
Avoid close contact with anyone having cough and sneezing
Wearing a medical mask
Are there any medicines to treat this virus?
To date, there’s no medicine identified to treat this virus.
Coronavirus in Chennai?
On Feb 5th, 4 suspected Coronavirus patients were admitted to Stanley Hospital, Chennai. Previously a Chinese national was admitted in Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital.
The State Health Secretary Beela Rajesh said that No positive cases have been reported in Tamilnadu so far.
