Though this heaven contains every element to consummate tourists, the highwavys mountains are not commonly known to the people of Tamilnadu. Lush green trees, tea estates, and cardamom plantations are a common sight in this cute little hill station.

1) Meghamalai Wildlife Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is a reserved place with an area of 63000 hectares and without any doubt, this is the top destination to visit. The evergreen forest with a variety of birds, wild animals, reptiles, mammals, and abundant flora and fauna, and many of which you cannot visit anywhere in one place will be a treat to your eyes. The sanctuary is a home for a variety of deers, tigers, porcupines, leopards, elephants, langurs, Nilgiri tahrs, wood snakes, wild boars, macaques, sloth bears, spotted doves, flying squirrels, otters, and junglefowl. Authorities also proposed to metamorphose the sanctuary as a tiger reserve and the same has been approved recently. You can also spot a range of birds such as spotted dove, barn swallow, red-whiskered bulbul, wagtail, reed warbler, iora, Asian flycatcher, shrike.

One can reach the wildlife sanctuary at a distance of 3 km from Megamalai bus station. 

Visiting time: The sanctuary is open for travelers between 6 a.m to 6 p.m 

2)  Highwavy Dam

Highwavy dam is one among the six dams in Meghamalai but is an artificial dam surrounded by coffee, tea plantations, and amazing mountain ranges that will attract every traveler. The dam was constructed in the year 1978 with a capacity of 2.4 million cubic meters. The water flow in the dam will be astonishing during the rainy season.

3) Manalar Dam

Manalar dam is also an artificial dam hedged by tea plantations that assure absolute surprise and peace for the travelers. The dam was constructed in the year 1978 across the Suruli river with a capacity of 13.5 million cubic meters. One can also witness placid lakes and mountain ranges that provide warm gestures from this viewpoint. The destination is also a perfect place for photography. Boating is also facilitated by the government in the catchment area of this dam.

4) Megamalai Viewpoint

The Viewpoint is a must-visit place that will assure a daring experience and is breath-taking. The place is ideal for photography. Travelers have to reach this place after a short trek. The lakes, mountains covered with mist, massive tea and coffee plantations, lakes and plains from this viewpoint are phenomenal. There are no shops available here and hence people have to take care of food, snacks, and water.

5) Iravangalar Dam

Similar to Highway and Manalar dams, this dam is also man-made and is located at Iravangalar village. Surrounded by green valleys, tea and coffee plantations the dam is a paradise for tourists.

Visiting time: 6 a.m to 5 p.m

Apart from these places which can be easily accessed by the tourists who visit Meghamalai, one should also consider Chinna Suruli falls which is not too far away from Meghamalai.

6) Chinna Suruli Falls

Chinna Suruli Falls aka Cloudland falls is an amazing waterfall and is a top destination for holiday lovers. The waterfall is two-tiered and is situated in the mountain ranges at a height of 190 feet. The place attracts many tourists during the peak season from October to December.

The waterfall is located near Kombai Thozhu and is 69 km from Meghamalai.

Note: Chinna Suruli fall is different from Suruli falls located near Cumbum.

Meghamalai is a perfect holiday destination to unwind your depressions and to beat the heat during summer. This place is certainly worth visiting once in a lifetime at least.
