This is a mass case of 95 people in Bihar, who attended the wedding at a Paliganj village in Patna have been tested as Corona positive.
The 30-year old groom was a software techie who was symptomatic of the virus, died just two days after the wedding on June 17. The family cremated the body as soon after he died so that the authorities won’t be able to trace if the death was caused by the virus.
Soon after the news broke out, the administration authorities took samples of the groom’s relative and neighbors who all attended the wedding and all the samples were turned out to be positive. Later the authorities stared tracing other guests who attended and 80 other guests were tested as COVID positive.
Confirming the incident, Patna DM Kumar Ravi said, he had got an anonymous call informing about the groom’s death after the wedding.
He also added that someone had called him and told about the incident, The groom had returned from Gurgaon, Haryana where he was working, Though the groom was symptomatic, his family went ahead with the wedding celebration and when his health deteriorated, family members rushed him to AIIMS-Patna but he collapsed and died on the way.
Further, the DM also said that the family carried out the funeral without the acknowledgment of the authorities. A local also said that they continued the wedding rituals despite the groom’s health was deteriorating and instead of taking him to the doctor, he was home quarantined.
Even a day prior to the wedding, the groom was running into a high fever and shivering, he then died after 2days, however, the bride who’s a civil engineer was tested negative for the virus.
Paliganj BDO Chiranjeevi Pandey said apart from Deehpali, they have sealed other surroundings from where people had gone and attended the wedding.
“We collected 300 samples, including those of vegetable sellers and all those involved in any kind of trade in the vicinity. Of them, 80 tested positive today. Now we are preparing the list of contacts of these 80 people,” said Chiranjeevi.
It’s disappointing to know, that even after knowing about the symptoms of the patient, the family defied all norms and continued the wedding rituals.
