The entire nation glued on the television when Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the coronavirus outbreak.
While the PM said that the nation must forget about leaving the house for 21 days, the panic-stricken people started rushing to purchase essential commodities like vegetables, milk, etc.
But many questions remain after Tuesday’s historic broadcast with many people unsure about what they can do and what they cannot do, or which things are available and not, which businesses are essential and non-essential.
Here is the list of things that you can avail of and things you cannot do.
1) How long does lock down last?
Till April 15, 2020
2) Will local stores operate?
Shops dealing with food, groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy and milk, meat and fish, animal fodder. Ration shops will also be open.
But factories, weekly bazaars, commercial establishments, offices will remain closed.
3) What if I need medicines?
All Chemist shops and pharmacies will be open.
4) Will I be able to buy Petrol and Gas?
Petrol pumps, LPG, petroleum and gas retail, and storage outlets will continue to operate.
5) What about places of worship?
All places of worship will be closed for the public. Any congregation of more than 5 people is strictly prohibited
6) Can I attend a funeral?
Congregation of not more than 20 people will be permitted.
7) Can I go to the hospital?
Yes, hospitals and all related medical establishments such as dispensaries, clinics, nursing homes, ambulances will continue to remain functional.
8) Will I be able to withdraw money?
Banks, insurance offices and ATM’s will be open.
9) Will there be any Government Offices?
Offices Of the Government Of India, it’s Autonomous/ Subordinate Offices and Public Corporations shall remain closed.
But post offices, disaster management, fire services, police, law and order, print and electronic media, electricity, water, municipal services will continue to function.
10) Will any kind of Transport Function?
All transport services Air, Rail, and Roadways will remain suspended.
11) Will private cars or two-wheeler be allowed?
Yes, only for those traveling for essential purposes including print and electronic media journalists are allowed.
12) Will the Internet be suspended?
No, telecommunication, broadcast, cable and internet services will continue to operate.
13) Can I order items for delivery?
Delivery of essential goods like medicines, and medical equipment through e-commerce is allowed.
14) Can I order food through Swiggy, Zomato?
No. Home delivery of Zomato, Swiggy and Uber eats are prohibited.
However the public can take-away food from restaurants. Amma canteens with adequate social distancing will also be open.
15) What if I have an Exam?
All educational, training, research, coaching institutions, etc. shall remain closed.
Lastly, wherever exceptions to the above have been allowed, the employers must ensure necessary precautions against the Covid-19 Virus as advised by the Health Department.
