On Sunday, the US government pledged to help India in its fight against the Covid-19 surge. After the 45-min phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the US President Joe Biden said that India was there for them at their hour of need.
The white house has arranged for supplies like raw materials for vaccines, oxygen, PPEs, critical life saving drugs, etc., as urgent help to the nation. Since Joe Biden had been elected as the president of the US, this was the second telephone conversation between the leaders. Joe Biden said, “Today, I spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pledged America’s full support to provide emergency assistance and resources in the fight against COVID-19.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki reported at the daily news conference that “the president pledged America’s steadfast ongoing support for the people of India, who have been impacted by the recent surge in the COVID-19 cases, We may be in a position to reroute shipments plan further countries with lower immediate needs given the urgency of the conditions in India, and we’ll have more details, hopefully, on the possibility soon”, She also provided further details regarding their extended help followed by the favors provided last year.
India has made a request for the following seven essentials that are oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders with 10 and 45 litres capacity, oxygen generators, oxygen generation plants, remdesivir, faviprivir, and tocilizumab. Rapid diagnostic testing supplies, personal protective equipment, and additional ventilators are said to be available to be transferred to India immediately.
The Covid-19 pandemic has been affecting the world severely during these critical times the United States has been one of the largest providers of assistance around the world as said by Ms. Psaki. India and the United States are said to have the highest challenges fighting the pandemic, The US government have expressed their will to work in partnership with India.
