Almost an hour ride from the city, The Tirusulam stone quarry perhaps is one of Chennai’s best-kept secrets. It’s really difficult to go reach the quarry since there are many routes that seem to be scary yet adventurous. You have to trek down the hills first to reach the quarry which is within the surrounding area.
You can spot Chennai international Airport and Tirusulam Railway Station and Metro rail passing by while trekking down the hills. The adventure allows us to catch some dreamy views of the city.

The interesting spot in the hills is the mosque which is on one side of the hill while there’s a temple on the other side. There are many lakes and quarries within Tirusulam, which has been a source of drinking water to residents, also engaging in quarrying and crushing units.
The huge lakes were formed when the quarries were abandoned. The lakes are spread almost over about 5 acres.
While many youngsters and nature enthusiasts love wandering over this abandoned place. Some also feel that the place is haunted and dangerous, due to the incident which happened almost 5 years ago where a lorry driver along with the vehicle drowned inside the 200ft deep lake.

You can either take a bus or train to Tirusulam to reach the hill nearby or come by car or a bike with family/friends and walk around the place to reach the quarry.
You can spot at least 3 huge lakes within Tirusulam surrounded by the abandoned quarry.
This place remains unknown even by most Chennaites, but it holds an old-world charm that you will instantly fall in love with and you’d love to be around here.
