How does one feel about losing a family member? Especially when it’s your kid. No matter how old your child is. Losing a kid is the worst part of anyone’s life. It’s hard to get over that phase of life.
Desraj, A 74 years old auto rickshaw wala found out that his 40 years old son was no more. He was missing a few days before his dead body was found in an auto. After his eldest son’s death Desraj started working immediately as his responsibilities doubled because he had to take care of his daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
After his eldest son passed away, his youngest son was the only bread earner in the family. But unfortunately, he committed suicide after 2 years.
Now, Desraj has to work harder as he is only the breadwinner of the family. He has to take care of the entire family and give a better life to his grandchildren.
He says there are days when they have not eaten food and there’s nothing worse than performing two burial ceremonies of my own kids. After the funeral, one of his granddaughters who was in 9th std asked him if she had to drop out of school as her father was no more.
Desraj replied that she should never leave her studying no matter what the situation is. He started working for more than 15 hours to manage a family of 7 members and earned at least 10,000 so that he could spend 6,000 for their education and the rest for their living.
His granddaughter scored an average of 80% in her class 12 and proved all his hard work is paid off. He was on top of the world when she told her results and did not charge a single rupee to any of his customers that day.
When his granddaughter told him that she wants to pursue B.Ed in Delhi. He agreed to her without asking her the next question. He sold his house and sent all his family members to his relative’s house and made sure that her dream can fulfilled her dream and she could get herself registered in the Delhi college.
Desraj stays all alone in Mumbai. He eats and sleeps in his auto and says that the auto is his home. He says he forgets everything when his granddaughter calls him and says that she is the topper in the class.
He wants to hug her and tell her that he is extremely proud of her as she is the only graduate in his entire family. In the interview, he also says that he is going to celebrate this moment by giving a free drive to all the passengers for a week.
He is one of those lucky grandfathers. He is a true example of a leader who never gives up no matter what the situation is. He finds solutions for every reason and makes sure everyone around him is happy.
