On Thursday, the minister in Chennai conveyed that the Centre has not expressed any of the clarifications regarding the inquiries asked by the State Government.
State Revenue Minister R.B Udhayakumar further opined that the National Population Register (NPR) in Tamil Nadu will be delayed.
A lot of angst was made due to NPR, Centre’s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and NRC. Tamil Nadu did not express as to which side they are on while 13 states passed down the resolution against CAA, which is in their legislative assemblies.
In Washermanpet, vehement protests were made by the Muslims; hence, the area earned the alias ‘Chennai Shaheen Bagh’. With this regards, Udhayakumar expressed that all the NPR activities would be put on hold in the state.
He further conveyed that the Tamil Nadu Government has only agreed to carry out the Census. No notification has been issued to perform the NPR exercise. Three questions have been asked on the NPR form and until proper clarification is received from the Centre, all the NPR exercise will be stopped.
He further proclaimed that there will be no need to submit the documents while the NPR exercise is be done.
