The personal data of 4.75 Crore Indians from Truecaller is on sale on the dark web for just 75,000/- INR, stated by a cyber-security firm.
As it was found by Cyble Inc, which is an American cyber intelligence reported that the data contains name, age, gender, city, email id, mobile number, telecom service provider and Facebook account.
In a statement, however, Truecaller refused any breach of its database while having word with Medianama by one of its company’s representatives.
All our user information is secure and there has been no breach of our database. We are continuously monitoring for suspicious activities and we take the privacy of our users and the rectitude of our services much seriously.
He also stated that the company was also informed about the similar data breach in the year 2019 as the current data set is the same as before.
It’s kid stuff for the competitors to collect mass mobile number databases and make a stamp on it of Truecaller. The benefit of doing that it lends few trustworthiness to the data and makes it much easier for them to sell it. We advise the users and public not to get trapped by such bad actors whose main motive is to trick the people and dupe their money.
