Out of all the promises, the greatest assurance that DMK has made in its 2021 Election Manifesto is that it will set a law to cancel the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS and BDS certifications in the state. DMK Chief MK Stalin declared this alongside the gathering’s rundown of a survey on Saturday at Chennai, as he delivered the political race proclamation for the upcoming surveys in the state.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) delivered their proclamations for the Lok Sabha races on Tuesday, both promising to scrap the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test(NEET) for Medical colleges.
The statement of the DMK was delivered by party boss MK Stalin, while that of the AIADMK was disclosed by Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam in Chennai.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, in its vision, an archive for the impending races, has said that instructing tuition will be set up in each area in Tamil Nadu to prepare students to confront tests like NEET, JEE, and Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). On the other hand, Congress, which is a partner of the DMK, has guaranteed to cancel NEET.
The whole NEET problem started when a girl named Anitha took her own life as she could not score enough in the NEET entrance. She even went to the Supreme Court to secure an exception from NEET in 2017. Though, the court ruled against her and made NEET the one and only criteria for accepting students to medical colleges in the state, similar to the rest of the country. Anitha’s death was a hard blow on the State. This proved that extra coaching is required to clear NEET which everybody cannot afford.
Hence DMK and AIADMK seek to abolish NEET.
